Ab-initio calculations of spin tunneling through an indirect barrier
We use a fully relativistic layer Green's functions approach to investigate spin-dependent tunneling through a symmetric indirect band gap barrier like GaAs/AlAs/GaAs heterostructure along [100] direction. The method is based on Linear Muffin Tin Orbitals and it is within the Density Functional Theory (DFT) in the Local Density Approximation (LDA). We find that the results of our ab-initio calc...
متن کاملOverlap Barrier Calculations for Spin Glasses
A novel method for numerical numerical spin glass investigations is described: Simulations of two replica at fixed temperature, weighted such that a broad distribution of the Parisi overlap parameter q is achieved. Canonical expectation values for the entire q-range (multi-overlap) follow by re-weighting and allow a calculation of spin glass tunneling barriers.
متن کاملTight-binding Hamiltonian from first-principles calculations
The tight-binding method attempts to represent the electronic structure of condensed matter using a minimal atomic-orbital like basis set. To compute tight-binding overlap and Hamiltonian matrices directly from first-principles calculations is a subject of continuous interest. Usually, first-principles calculations are done using a large basis set or long-ranged basis set (e.g. muffin-tin orbit...
متن کاملTunneling times through barrier with inelasticity
Tunneling delay times of wavepackets in quantum mechanical penetration of rectangular barriers have long been known to show a perplexing independence with respect to the width of the barrier. This also has relevence to the transmission of evanescent waves in optics. Some authors have claimed that in the presence of absorption or inelastic channels (which they model by taking a complex barrier p...
متن کاملBreaking through the tight junction barrier
T H~ tight junction, or zonula occludens, is an organeile of crucial importance to the development and function of most organ systems in vertebrates because it enables epithelia and endothelia to create eompositionaily distinct fluid compartments. The tight junction forms a continuous permeability barrier between adjacent cells that regulates the flux of molecules through the paracellular space...
